Let's read "Unfinished Canvas" link to a PDF Center for Ed Policy at SRI International. Large-scale assessment. Pam Paulson please send.

Pam in Minnesota is moving toward the classroom and district level.

NAEP questions? How many states participated? NAEP coordinator in each state...

Pam on music and visual arts NAEP...visual arts was similar to what SCASS had in terms of on-demand exercises, may have been the self-portraits, diverse classroom, kids were engaged.

Making a shift from individual teachers to whole district teams (- curriculum mapping where are the standards placed and where are the summative assessments placed) once the districts have these, then the districts are being asked how will they document these scores that can be reported out to the state like all other subjects. Becomes huge pd in arts assessments. MN and St. Paul, music K-5...music middle school...music high school. Rural areas they're combining districts.

MN graduation requirement, 1 credit...how do they meet this requirement?
MN schools must offer 3 arts and require schools to show work in 2 arts. The following arts areas are required to have an accountability system... arts is the only one listed as core but need a state accountability system and there can be no tests. Build an accountability system wo tests.

Using the Australian method for teachers coming from many districts to look at student work for regional panels for consistency and then work goes to a state panel...

Stipends?? Teachers do not get paid to be involved but they do pay for subs. Huge PD component. Funding to continue this work? Request for funding from legislature since they are having their arts standards revised for 2010. $1.5 to $2 million request.

Music NAEP kids were devastated, kids were unprepared, listening to music they'd never heard before...

We'll complete the NE survey and Sarah will do this.

Prompts who made them? Mid-90's made them more appropriate then but not now with the diversity of the kids.
