Subject: Notes from our phone Conference on April 4, 2008
Aloha everyone,
Thanks for participating in our phone conference. We had six states and seven people (two from Hawaii) participate in our phone conference (see below). We addressed two questions and these are my notes, and please feel free add, revise a or make comments to my notes. I will use the blog as a "reporting document" and emails as "internal planning documents."
a. what do you think about the "data on Arts Assessment" from our states that we gathered? See blog: http://seadaewesternregion.blogspot.com/
Nancy and Lynn clarified the needs of the grant and hopefully the blog gives some qualitative data on this question. Developing some survey questions (e.g. does your state have a "state arts assessment instrument/test?" - with a Yes/No response) could also clarify the question with some other contextual questions such as number of arts teachers, programs, enrollment, budget, etc. We also need to gather this data to report to our "decision-makers" to show needs, successes, and goals of Arts Education. The consensus was a need to gather arts assessment data and report on what each state is doing with Arts Assessment. In addition, we need to meet and dialogue to increase our understanding of the issue and how we can improve Arts education in our states. A "face to face" conference will facilitate our understanding of the issue and gather data on this issue to satisfy the requirements of the grant SEADAE received and planning for the next grant.
The blog could be used to share qualitative data and I'll try to develop some survey questions to develop some quantitative data.
b. What are some ideas to use the $5,000 Budget?
Tentative plan is to have a "face to face" conference to address Arts Assessment as stated above.
Place: Portland, Oregon (Michael to find venues and hotels; and can you check if a phone conference is possible and if we can get online access to the internet; and can we use your computer with an LCD projector?)
Choices for dates: July 2-3; 7-8; 9-10; 11-12; June 30-July 1
Please email me your first and second choices. We're mindful that there is no "perfect date" so accommodations will be made to have a phone conference as part of the session.
